This September we will be throwing open the doors of The Hill as part of the National Trust’s Heritage Open Days Festival.
Heritage Open Days is England’s largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history, to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all for free.
The Hill, which is a unique 17th-century merchant’s house in Stroud , will open its doors on Saturday 12th September from 10am – 4pm for people to discover more about the building and its heritage, as well as what its used for today.
This is a rare opportunity to explore the historic grounds and unique rooms that date back to 1634. The house still has many period features including original oak wood beams, panelling, and Art Noveau ceramic tiles, as well as beautiful views of the distant Forest of Dean from its position high above Stroud town centre.
Today the building is owned by the Stroud Masons and is open to the public for private event hire including weddings, parties, christenings, and corporate events.
During the open day you will have the chance to find out more about its history and visit the Masonic Temple, where you’ll find high ceilings, masonry regalia, and other interesting artefacts. There will be various history displays available in the building during the day.
Berry Blue, The Hill’s award-winning in-house catering and event partner, will be there to show how the building can be used as a wedding or party venue. Refreshments will be available from the bar.
No need to book for the open day, it’s free to enter and is sure to be a great day out for couples and families. Dogs are not allowed into the building, with the exception of assistance dogs.
